When you look back on a relationship after just having your heart broken, questions boil up from your gut– How did this happen? Was I an idiot for falling so hard? What happens now? In their debut-album opener, “Abducted”, indie-pop group, Cults, coyly chalk it all up something that just sort of happen to us when our emotions are uncontrollably snatched away. The song is a cathartic paean for anyone who feels they have been duped. But with Madeline Folin’s baby du-wop voice cheering out over snappy percussion, and the echo of Brian Oblivion’s sly response, the song is far from bitter or despairing. The surging energy of the song is a reminder that maybe you’ve had your heart broken, but at least, for a moment there, you really felt something.
